Benefits of Private Yoga Lessons

There are many reasons why a private yoga class may be more beneficial to you than a public one. From personalised attention solely focussing on you, to the ability to deepen your yoga practice on your terms.

The main reason to attend a private yoga class is of course for the one to one attention you'll receive. This is a fantastic aspect to private classes as it opens up the options for your practice exponentially. Allowing you to make the most of your time with you teacher, as well as receive a class that is designed around you. Private classes mean you can receive in depth attention that focusses on ensuring a safe and fulfilling practice on your terms. Perhaps there's a specific pose you want to work on and struggle with the technicalities - a private yoga lesson can give you that one to one attention to help you identify what's missing, how to approach the pose and all in a way that's informed by your unique body. As a yoga teacher I adore teaching 1-2-1's and private group classes because it allows me to get into the nitty gritty of the pose I'm guiding you through and ensure you're practicing with knowledge, kindness and patience. Both for yourself and the practice.

The beauty of private yoga classes is that they are designed entirely around you. Whether there's a specific aspect of your practice you wish to develop in depth, or perhaps you want to try something new and gain confidence before attending public class. Private yoga classes afford you the time and attention to really get what you want out of your practice. For some that can be finally nailing that challenging pose. For others it could be finding an entirely new aspect to your practice. I did a course of private yoga lessons earlier in the year and it completely changed my approach to my personal yoga practice. I went from strength building vinyasa style to a restorative and mindful approach. This then bled into my everyday life off the mat as well. Sometimes being given the space to articulate what we'd like and how we feel can lead us to an unexpected area of our practice and reap so many unexpected benefits.

But say you know exactly what you want to work on. You're happy and fulfilled from the current style of yoga you practice but you just really wish you could nail that specific pose. That's where a one off 1-2-1 or even a course of 1-2-1's comes in handy. By telling your teacher I'd really love to work on Headstand, or Crow or whatever it is you want to explore, they can then design the class around that pose. Giving you a template from which to work on in your personal practice. Just recently one of my 1-2-1 clients said she wanted to be able to do a headstand. So I put together a 6 week plan to enable her to achieve this goal. She didn't only achieve it, she bloody smashed it. She now regularly practices headstands and is gaining more confidence and comfort in the pose. It's incredibly gratifying and fulfilling to see as her teacher.

Perhaps you're sitting there reading this thinking that there's nothing in particular you want to work on you just want to get more comfortable with yoga and going to yoga classes. I get it, I've been there. I've suffered with anxiety for around a decade now and there was a time when I found it incredibly difficult to exist in a yoga class as a student. Overthinking and anxious thoughts became the norm in class and I found a home practice was the only place I could actually enjoy yoga. Online yoga became a life saver in terms of my practice, I could practice from a safe space where I felt comfortable while enjoying knowledgable guidance and tuition. It's why I'm so passionate about providing online classes as well as private ones. Private classes can help you learn to enjoy yoga again and build confidence before entering a public class. By sharing your worries with a qualified yoga teacher who's willing to listen you relieve some of the discomfort while being taught techniques within yoga to help you build confidence.

Another benefit to private yoga lessons is the ability to go deeper. Yes perhaps within the pose, but also within the practice. These lessons can help you try new things that you may not have known about or haven't had the opportunity to try yet. From different styles of asana practice to meditation and pranayama. Even delving into the rich and varied philosophy of yoga can be incorporated into your private classes. This is because these classes are designed around you and entirely for you. Your yoga teacher is your guide, and with private classes this gives them so much more time and energy to focus on what you would like and what you need from your practice.
